Our Tutors

Molly Monet-Viera

Spanish

Molly has been teaching all levels of Spanish language and Hispanic literature and culture at the university level since 1996, most recently at Boston University. Originally from California, she fell in love with the language at Princeton and went on to get a PhD in Spanish from Yale. As a non-native, she understands how to go from zero to fluent in Spanish.

As a tutor, her specialty is getting to know a student to discover the best way for them to learn a language. She loves to share her passion for language acquisition, and her favorite moments are when students get excited about it, too. In addition to traditional classroom courses and tutoring, she also developed an AP Spanish massive open online course (MOOC) that has enrolled over 30,000 students of all ages and nationalities. While many people believe that languages are best learned by children, this course has demonstrated to her that adults can absolutely learn a foreign language, and that their intrinsic motivation can give them a big advantage over students who are taking it for a requirement.

In her free time, Molly enjoys traveling, knitting, and yoga. She and her husband love to ride tandem bicycles all over the world, although their favorite trip was to Peru to study Andean textiles and music. Molly is the mother to two bilingual, Puerto Rican-American teenagers.
